The Shelbourne Marriott hotel was built in 1824 and is easily one of the most exclusive and pleasant destinations to stop by when visitng the wonderful capital of Ireland- Dublin. The property boasts 265 rooms which have been known to host an impressive roster of famous past guests (Bill Clinton, Julia Roberts, and Liam Neeson have all stayed here, to name a few). Located directly opposite of St. Stephen’s Green, The Shelbourne is guaranteed to make for a memorable vacation destination; with its close walking proximity to Dublin’s buzzing hotspots including Grafton Street, Temple Bar district, Trinity College, Christ’s Church and St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
Aside from the convenient and beautiful location the hotel is situated in, we absolutely loved the service that guests are greeted with the moment they step into the front door. Guests are offered lemonade at the check-in; one could have a look at the miniature Shelbourne Museum that offers a history lesson about the hotel, after all, it is a property that is 191 years old. The rooms are well-kept and aim to provide the highest level of comfort for every kind of a guest. Our favourite was the Deluxe Room with Balcony which offered a lot of space, gorgeous furniture (the bed was especially comfy) and a bathroom that could easily match the kind we are used to in the Gulf resorts.
When it comes to dining, the Saddle Room offers a wide range of options, including a breakfast buffet, which gets especially busy between 9 and 10 o’clock, followed up by the fine dining experience for the rest of the day. The Lord Mayor’s Lounge is excellent for the afternoon tea, while No. 27 Bar & Lounge has become a popular spot for the guests and Dubliners alike.
The Spa at the Shelbourne offers a wide range of treatments which are designed to take you up to the spa heaven and back. We’ve especially loved Journey into Relaxation, which basically could be described as a 2-hour party for the face and body; it is an anti-ageing treatment that focuses on the face and eyes area, complete with a heavenly massage to the arms and hands. In other words, we felt being touched by something divine. The Spa is also equipped with a Health
Club that offers a swimming pool, thermal facilities, state-of-the-art gymnasium, fitness suite, fitness classes and a dance studio all professionally run by a team of qualified personal instructors.
Overall, the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin is a destination that we will definitely add to our ‘Favourites’ list. It’s experience is made memorable by its impeccable service, incredibly rich history, wonderful and extensive facilities, gorgeous dining options and an absolute gem of a location. The Shelbourne Hotel, without a doubt, is the Dublin’s 5-star destination.
