This season Paul Smith takes us back to his past to explore his signatures.

What is mostly notable about the AW16 collection is the extensive and accentuated use of stripes mostly in bright, and in some cases, subdued colours. The outerwear is mainly showcased through the multi versions of the Epsom coat, ranging from sheepskin and cashmere to peaked lapels and single and double-breasted.

Layering is strong in this collection which Paul Smith displays brilliantly through coats being styled on top of the classic tailoring or the colourful knitwear. Dinosaur prints and knitted jacquards peep from beneath these layers while digitally-printed peaches on bomber jackets enforce the pioneering use of photo printing techniques of Paul Smith.

To truly accentuate the free spirit of the 60s and the 70s, Paul Smith AW16 collection features a lot of flared trousers (which is a general trend seen at the other shows in Paris this season), lip-shaped fastenings on leather belts and heeled leather boots which extend above the ankle. This free spirit essence is further enhanced by the soundtrack featuring the likes David Bowie, The Queen, The Beatles and The Clash. Bravo, Mr. Smith.
