Henrik Vibskov latest collection is inspired by the patterns of sleep- the door between dreams and nightmares, where the surreal becomes style, and the unsurreal becomes current. He goes on to say “When the eyes are closed and the heart beats quickly, the body and mind becomes disengaged from the surroundings and the breathing becomes shallower. As we give up our bodies to sleep, sudden twitches escape our brains and we go through a chain of sleep stages.” The studying of what happens to us when we sleep or don’t sleep, or what positions are we lying in when we are sleeping- was his first point of inspiration.
However, people sleep in a variety of locations; some directly on the ground, others on platforms or beds. Whereas some sleep with blankets, others with pillows or simple headrests, some in sleeping bags. The bed-sheets, blankets and pillowcases were the foundations he worked on, layering them into dimensional silhouettes with flamboyant printings and colour combinations. Think light-weight shirts and two piece pyjama sets creased as a resemblance of bedding being slept on, or blanket style jackets and dressing gowns, as well as standard cut cotton trousers.
The nightmares and dreams are referenced throughout his styled choices, which not only display our emotions but sensations. Henrik Vibskov‘s SS18 collection, is definitely something to think about in terms of creativity and something we can all relate to.
