Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli have delivered something compelling and extraordinary for the Valentino Men AW16 collection. The show felt like we were being taken on a trip to explore the brand’s individuality while still maintaining focus on keeping the looks luxurious, serious and at the same time playful. The grey, camel beige and olive tones dominated the long coats while the North American tribal influence was clearly present in ponchos and jackets through structured patterns. There was a clear play between the serious and rock n roll looks, which resulted in some standout pieces such as black jackets with patterned white embroideries; checks multiplied over suits and pants were either tightly fitted or largely loose, yet structured and contained. Additionally, a certain touch of Texan influence was present in the denim pieces with studs running on shirts.

Overall, this season Valentino Men AW16 rings in to bring out the serious and, at times, playful in us. The clear influence of the Native American folklore highlights the notion of free spirit, which would never go unappreciated. It is indeed a five-star collection that is set to turn heads.
