The first perfume to come from Miu Miu is, as to be expected, an artwork on its own; and the gorgeous and mega-talented French actress Stacy Martin is the face and the singular talent with a playful intelligence and artistic rigour that is the essence of Miu Miu. We wanted to see what it felt like to be picked for the first ever fragrance of Miu Miu so we caught up for a quick chat with Stacy.

You are lending your features to the first-ever, much-anticipated Miu Miu perfume. What pushed you to accept this role?
One of the things that I admire about Miu Miu is its duality in references and style. There’s something very playful and very strong and assertive about the woman Miuccia Prada envisions when you see her creations. I’d worked with Miu Miu beforehand for their FW 2014 campaign. I was invited in a family that was passionate not only about fashion, but also film, art, music, culture, and so many other things. It was a very natural decision for me to continue working alongside Miu Miu and especially for their first fragrance.

Did Miuccia Prada’s interest and commitment to cinema and actresses influence your decision?
Of course. I think it doesn’t just stop there too. She collaborates with architects and artists on different aspects of her work. It’s something I naively didn’t expect from a fashion designer.

What do you think about being part of this “family” of actresses united by Miuccia Prada?
The first time I was invited to the Miu Miu fashion show at the Palais d’Iena I wasn’t too sure what to expect, I wasn’t too familiar with how shows proceed and had just shot with Steven Meisel for their campaign so everything was quite new. There’s a real mixture of talent which reflects her nonconformist and exciting taste. And to use the word “family” is a reassuring and grounding word when you enter the world of fashion which I find sometimes very intimidating.

Miu Miu’s universe is unique and naive, luxurious and avant-garde, fantastic and sophisticated, sharp and poetic… what does this house represent for you?
Miu Miu for me is a house where you can play with contrasts. Contrasts in colours, patterns, textures, and, most importantly, in attitudes. There’s a real sense of adventure and femininity. The Miu Miu universe is one that transcends fashion to different spheres in life, every piece created has a link to Mrs Prada’s world and vision and really tells a story on its own.
