With all the developments that happened at Lanvin in the past few months, we did not know what to expect. Yes, Lucas Ossendrijver is not new to Lanvin and, yes, he has been at the label for a decade, yet we still did not know what the show would be without its former artistic director Alber Elbaz. In a way, we enjoyed having this surprise element weighing down on us. After all, we do love a surprise as long as it is good. And good it was; in fact, it was great!
The AW16 men’s collection is Ossendrijver’s first collection without Elbaz, and we must say, he has delivered a strong, fresh and very elaborate collection that can stand its own and attract the attention of many in the global fashion industry. Long coats with seemingly uncontrolled yet perfectly structured silhouettes dominated the show, while the rest of the collection showcased a strong sense of simplicity with purpose. The other notable highlight were the oversized baggy pants that are very practical as they could take you to work looking smart and lead you to a fancy dinner or a fun night out. In other words, it was a signature Lanvin show with a collection that is set to withstand anything thrown at it. Bravo!
