Born in Milan, growing up between Florence and Cortina, Ermanno’s professional training allowed him to live and breathe the atmosphere of the coolest cities of 70’s and 80’s: from Paris – his second home, to New York of Andy Warhol, trends and style that his professional life taught him. Florence, his home of choice, where he decided that he would dress the most beautiful women in the world. Self-taught, he learnt everything he knows from Italian mentors in the fields of luxury goods and fashion design.

Right from the start, he was full of originality; aiming to offer sporty couture styling based on evening jackets, fitted corsets, sophisticated, rare, and as treasured as pieces of lingerie. Italian women snapped them up without a second glance. Right from the very first catwalk show, orders came flooding in. The technique the designer applied to sportswear was an immediate success. The Ermanno Scervino style was launched.

Nowadays men are really into fashion, as same as women. What detail do you recon they love the most?
Men’s fashion has become important as women’s fashion. Men are increasingly careful about what fashion offers. Knowing how to dress in the right way has become a habit for men. Mostly, they like accessories.

What kind of men Ermanno Scervino wants to dress?
I like the style of the man who does not follow fashion. My ideal is a contemporary and cultured dandy; a trendsetter without extreme formalism and extravagance.

Do you have a different research process from the one you use for women, when you work on a new collection for men?
Materials and colours are the starting point. Thanks to the know-how of my team and the prestigious Tuscany tradition of lace manufacturing, it is possible to always achieve new results with unexpected material effects.

What are the colours for men this summer?
A touch of fluo, blue navy and micro/macro pois patterns. For the next Spring/Summer 2016, I thought of a multicoloured man and sport-couture.

What’s the item that every man should have in the closet this summer?
Certainly, the parka, maybe with a fluo colour inside.

What’s the item that could never be considered démodé?
The white shirt. It is essential in any man’s wardrobe.

Everything you do is produced in Italy. Are the buyers sensitive about this?
We always look to the international and educated clientele, who can recognise and appreciate the true “Made in Italy.” Every item that is made in Italy is charismatic and has certain energy that

distinguishes it from any other. Italian style represents excellence: fabrics, cut, design. The quality of the item personifies the 50% of its beauty. Our customers love our product and, for this reason, they continue to get the quality we have never betrayed in materials, workmanship, and, evidently, also in style.

Could you give us some hints of what is going to be on trend for the next season?
For the coming autumn-winter, Ermanno Scervino men will be wearing inverted shearlings, heavyweight flannel shirts in cotton with micro-crystal inserts – all emanating that romantic rock flavour. Check patterns are also starring on bouclé wool overcoats with shearling on the collars with hints of red, burgundy and lime.
