To stand out, Nada G makes sure that every piece created has a soul. This Lebanese jeweller’s uniqueness comes from going against established norms. The pieces exhibit fragility in their coarseness, docility in their textures, and vibrancy in their candid statements. Each piece of jewellery echoes a different sense of emotion, mirroring not only an adornment of the senses, but more so celebrating what they evoke in being a woman. To know more about this fast-rising Middle Eastern brand, Velvet chats exclusively with the artist herself, Nada G.
What is the story behind the label?
We are an International award-winning jewellery brand that creates timeless fine jewellery pieces with an edge, that makes up an impressive tailor-made and high-end portfolio in 18 karat gold, adorned with precious and semi-precious stones. Each piece is intricately crafted with passion and equaled in doses of time, labor and beauty- all combined.
How did it all start?
My fondest memory is me sitting by the fireplace watching my grandmother’s delicate fingers weave pieces of art using string and her trusted crochet needle. I could sit for hours on end and never tire. I was fascinated with the intricate details of the pieces she created. I clearly recall the euphoric feeling I had the first time she held my hand and gently pressed my finger against that needle as she carefully guided me to tie my first knot. I knew, back then, at the early age of 6 that I wanted to be an artist and an artisan.
Later as a teenager, I aspired to emotionally connect with women around the world through my fine jewellery collections.
What are you inspired by?
My designs are a true reflection of my emotional sense, of my immediate surroundings and what invariably moves me. I am touched by everything I see and everyone I meet. It could be as simple as the icicles that hang down from the window of my parent’s house in the mountains or a sparkle in a child’s eye. Talking to myself, and digging deep into my soul is what kick-starts my ideas. I suppose that’s where my hard disc is.
What is your creative process?
It is very challenging to create something unseen and unexpected, and that’s why I always aspire to explore my ideas. Coming from an advertising background, I do not start by creating a piece, but instead it starts by creating the concept of the collection, then sketching different items with that concept in mind. Relevant items are then chosen based on a different criteria. Prototypes are later produced, and eventually a final selection is made.
What are your challenges?
There is no fun in having no challenges, whether it is coming up with new ideas, perfecting production, growing internationally, etc.. It is these challenges that inspire me most to work harder.
What about your personal style? What is it?
I am a reflection of Nada G– elegant with a twist. I love clothes, shoes and jewellery, but I must say that my must-haves are based on rings, specifically pinky rings; lots of shoes, very high-healed ones, and jackets and coats made out of different fabrics. Everything else follows.
Your latest collection, tell us about it.
Nada G aspires to emotionally connect with women. Nada G jewellery captures my world of experiences, showcasing intricately designed masterpieces that exhibit pure order and overt perfection. They highlight fragility in their raw roughness and are timeless pieces that celebrate the individual by connecting emotionally with them.
I embraced the end of the year with a new, colourful and optimistic start, translated into a vibrant bold collection called “Resolutions”. The goal was to add light, love and hope in everything we do and then spread the positive colourful energy to women all around. When I work, I think of the powerful global woman; however I would rather not select the women, but let them select Nada G.
What is your ultimate goal?
As I have always aspired to connect with women around the world through my fine jewellery pieces, becoming a leading and inspiring brand with worldwide presence is definitely on the horizon.
What do you hope the future holds for you?
Everyday there is something new. These days I am looking forward for Couture Las Vegas in May, where I will be exhibiting for the second time. In addition, we are working on growing Nada G in the Gulf region.
