Mozan Saeed Al Sabousi is an Emirati artist and a painter based in Dubai. Ever since she was a little girl, she always participated in a number of competitions including the Dubai Shopping Festival competition in 1996. To improve her painting skills Mozan then took up courses at the Dubai International Art Centre, which resulted in her spreading beautiful Emirati artwork throughout the world, such as one of her paintings that was displayed of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in OPEC in Vienna, chosen to represent UAE artwork. However, one of her greatest honours is the fact that Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa Bint Suhail owns one of her pieces.

One may notice a variety of different media in Mozan’s work; oil paints, watercolours, glass paints and burns on wood and leather are just a few of the tools she uses to create her art. However, her favourite tool is oil paint, “I believe that it leaves the viewer with a great impression and allows the piece to be more real than when other materials are used. Realism and Impressionism have really influenced my work as I feel that it allows the painter to express and unveil their emotions, experiences and spiritual values.”

Some of her favourite artists include Leonardo da Vinci, Van Gogh and Aashraf Sami. “Inspiration for my work comes from my country’s culture and traditions, values and the unique lifestyle of the Emirati people. As well as, great events such as marriage, birth and death.” When asked if she has any of her work’s favourites, she replied, “I have a lot of favourites. They include the one of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Souqs and the painting of my grandfather. However, my most favourite is called I am granddaughter and this is a painting of my grandmother, who is my inspiration.”

Among other interests, Mozan enjoys reading up on the history of art, Arab novels and doing yoga. Mozan Saeed Al Sabousi will be exhibiting her work from 15-25th March, 2015 at an event sponsored by The Watani Foundation in Al Fahidi Historic Area. Her hopes for the future include her own solo exhibition, “I have the desire to reach the peak and be an international artist through my work that showcases the Emirati woman and the UAE culture.”
