Face it… if you’re making the wrong choice in jewellery. For it’s not how expensive your jewellery is, but rather how it complements your face. Get to know your face type and discover the right matching bling to flaunt.

Oval faces

The oval face is soft and curved, with an equal distance from the hairline to the eyebrow and from the eyebrow to the chin.

Necklaces > Almost any shape or style of necklace will do, provided they are not long, looping necklaces and the design is in proportion to the individual body shape. Necklaces should complement the neckline and oval faces are best accented by soft curving shapes such as pearls, ribbon, open link chain, affirmation rings and more.

Earrings > Oval faces can wear almost any shape or style except overly long shapes, as they will tend to lengthen the oval face. To minimize a thin oval face or a long nose, use styles that are more ear hugging or have wings that that grow outwards. To further accentuate an oval face, try hoops, hoops circles, chandeliers and other soft, curving designs using open link chain, teardrops and go-go, or simply settle for triangle-shaped earrings.

The Round Face

The round face is firm and curved with an equal distance all around, making the nose a central point.

Necklaces > Do not opt for long, looping necklaces that will draw the eyes down and lengthen the look of the face. Instead look for vertical styles which create a ‘V’ shape. Avoid chokers, collar and princess lengths, as they shorten the neck and add width to the throat.

Earrings > The round face is ideal for wearing long, vertical styles – dangles, drops, narrow chandeliers and ear threads. Any styles that draw attention to a strong vertical line will be flattering for a round face. Long drop earrings are an ideal choice, as they lengthen the line of the face.

The Rectangular Face

These faces are longer than wide. The width of the face at the forehead, cheekbones and chin are the same or almost the same.

Necklaces > Short necklaces reduce the appearance of lengths of the rectangular face. Choker, collar and princess lengths are ideal (especially if you have a long neck). Circular neck wires and necklaces without bold focal components are another option for the rectangular face.

Earrings > The rectangular face is ideal for wearing large, bold style – large, button styles or wide, colourful chandeliers.

The Square Face

The square face poses a strong jaw line. The distance from the top of the face to the chin matches the width of the face.

Necklaces > Square faces need necklaces with length and curves to soften the strong jaw line. Choose pendants or focal components with curves and swirls to counter the strong angular elements of the jaw.

Earrings > The square face is ideal for wearing large oval hoops, long drop and narrow chandelier earrings.

The Heart-Shaped (or Inverted Triangle) Face

The heart-shaped face flaunts a wide brow and narrow chin. In addition, the width of the face at the forehead and cheekbones is greater than the width at the chin.

Necklaces > Try short necklaces with curves to reduce the appearance of length in the jawline and to diminish the sharp point of the chin. Triple-strand chokers, large beads at the base of the throat, bold pendant on a short necklace… all these shorten the look of the face. Circular neck wires, omega chains and short bib-style necklaces are another option to can try out.

Earrings > Dangling earrings that are more rounded at the bottom are perfect for this face type. They reduce the angles around the chin and makes them more rounded. Avoid wearing slim drop earrings as this focuses attention to the chin.
