In a galaxy not so far away, illuminated by 800 lasers, an 18-metre wide spaceship slowly descends to earth. The door opens and out struts Irina Shayk. An ice wall shatters, and a robot emerges, taking Irina by the hand. Philipp Plein’s Autumn/Winter 2018 space odyssey has begun.
This season, every brand from the Plein universe is united in one spectacular show staged in Brooklyn. Philipp Plein men’s and womenswear, and Plein Sport are on display as an all-star cast of super models, including Halima Aden, performers (Migos, 6ity9ine, Rich the Kid, Ayo & Tayo), a Paralympic athlete and socialite. This is Planet Plein, where all worlds come together in peace- but with some serious attitude.
Barbarellas in big pastel hair-dos, metallic jumpsuits and fur ski boots go boldly forth with tough astronauts, in studded biker jackets and red-stripe denim. See-through plastic Blade Runner macs, spacesuit puffer coats and mirror-panelled tracksuits orbit alongside latex trousers, goggle sunglasses and snow hover boards. Elsewhere, cosmic catsuits, knee-high boots and teddy bear bags encrusted in crystals sparkle like bright constellations. This is a sci-fi fantasy where luxury, street-style and sportswear collide in a supernova explosion.
To celebrate the launch of the Philipp Plein pop-up store on Mercer Street, there is also a ‘see-now, buy-in-SoHo’ exclusive capsule collection of one-off items. Highlights include a leather baseball jacket emblazoned with ‘No Mercy on Mercer Street 40’, high-top trainers complete with personalised LED display units and a special collaboration with Playboy featuring their iconic bunny logo with Plein bones. Buckle up and prepare for a close encounter of the Plein kind.
