The first handbag in a new collection by Clare Waight Keller, for the Maison Givenchy, sports the initials of the house’s historic address, on the Avenue George V, number 3- which is now available at boutiques within the UAE.

Echoing the spring-summer 2018 fashion collection, the G V 3 embodies the special duality that has always run through Givenchy: polished yet practical, chic yet casual, respectful of the past yet above all attuned to modern life. The “Double G” clasp says it all: two entities interlocked. Two halves of a whole. Modern lines embrace a time-intensive vintage finish. In keeping with her vision of the Givenchy spirit, Clare Waight Keller created the G V 3 as a study in contrasts. A complex three-compartment accordion structure maximizes capacity while minimizing volume. Hard frame construction meets soft body- opening countless potential combinations of leathers, finishes and colours in the process.

Smooth, shiny flat-grained leather mixes with the tactile softness of suede, their colours deepened with a hand-dabbed “Tamponato” finish. Sleek kid /goat leather and lambskin are heat-treated separately, to display their unique grains. Exotic leathers, such as cat snake (boiga dendrophilia) or black and white modern pythons, are individually dyed and hand-painted to bring out each bag’s individual attitude. Once hand-assembled, every raw seam is hand-painted as a finishing touch.

To optimize versatility, the G V 3 pairs a magnetic “kissing” clasp with a lift-up mechanism to enable quick, single-handed closure, while a chain strap nods simultaneously to the men’s traditional pocket watch chain and to women’s jewellery. With a twin strap in leather, the bag offers four styles of wear: on the arm, shoulder, cross-body or as an evening clutch.  As seen on the first look in Clare Waight Keller’s début for Givenchy, the Nano bag can also be worn on a belt.
